AWARE (Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies)

Description: AWARE’s mission is to provide safe shelter and support services for women and children who have been subjected to domestic or sexual violence, and to affect the social, political, and legal changes needed to eliminate oppression and violence against women and children. AWARE provides the following services: safe shelter for women and their children for up to thirty days; transportation to the shelter (airfare, ferry fare for the communities serviced by AWARE, and safe rides for Juneau residents); advocacy – compassionate, knowledgeable support, and education for women as well as education and counseling for children. AWARE also provides information about rights and options regarding housing, employment, childcare, Protection Orders, treatment for perpetrators, Public Assistance, family or individual counseling, and personal safety education. AWARE also provides community education on domestic violence and sexual assault upon request.

Note: Referrals to the CAC must come through police or another law enforcement or OCS.
Description: We are a team of multidisciplinary professionals who intervene for the safety, wellbeing and healing of abused children. To ease the trauma of abuse, we unite the community so that children can be heard.
